Creamed Cabbage
We made some really weird things in my home economics class. I think it was because they had to come up with recipes for whatever food was donated. Anyhow, this one day we had to make creamed cabbage, and everyone was like, “ew.” So my teammate Sharon and I were making the creamed cabbage, and she knows I like to sprinkle salt on everything. So while I was walking around the classroom passing out toasted breadcrumbs for garnish to all the students, she salted my cabbage. And she way over-salted it, so much, and then I added salt when I got back, and it was so bad. It was so salty I couldn’t eat it, which was a requirement of the class…after-all, it was wartime and people in Europe were starving, so NO ONE wasted food. So when the teacher wasn’t looking, Sharon dumped mine and hers out the window not realizing that below our window was the teacher’s parking lot, and the creamed cabbage splattered all over our cooking teacher’s car. Needless to say, I didn’t get an A in cooking class.
