Pie Crust

Bev

One time, I tried to make a pie crust when we were living in the projects while Joe was attending medical school. We were given lard and flour as part of the surplus food commodities we were receiving. My mother-in-law, your Nana, told me it would make a good pie crust. So I got the lard and the flour together and started adding little drips of water, but it was too dry. So then I added more water. Then, of course, it was too wet, so I added in more flour. Then it was too dry, so I added more water. Then it was too wet. I kept going back and forth between mushy and dry and finally it was so gross from mushing it with my hands I just threw it in the garbage. It was just awful.

My wonderful mother-in-law, Nana, who tried to teach me how to make pie crust. I did not make her birthday cake. Nana did succeed in teaching me how to sew, and most importantly how to make her sauce!
