Stuffed Cabbage
During the medical school days in the Hammond Housing Project there was family we were close to who was also going through medical school, The Byrds. Money was short. One summer day I made stuffed cabbage for all of us. It was a little more expensive than a regular meal and it was a LOT more work. I invited them over and we were going to take the roaster to the park and set up a picnic. Everyone was packed up and ready to go. I set the roaster full of the cabbage that I had just spent all day making on the counter and It hydroplaned! I raced to catch it as it fell off the counter, and I slipped and sat in the pile of my stuffed cabbage on the floor. It burned me because it was still so hot! I was wearing shorts. I was so upset and embarrassed, Grandpa told me to go sit in the tub of cold water. When I came back from the tub, re-dressed and hiding my burned behind, all the cabbage was all stuffed back in the roaster and packed ready to go. We went to the park and ate them all, even though I sat on them. I had a big red mark on my fanny, no one saw that. None of us died.
